Water Wise tennis club

The Beaumaris Community Centre Tennis Club, in its efforts to be water-wise efficient, has treated its courts with a special water retaining product.  En-tous-cas Courts such as these must have plenty of water so as not to dry out and crack.

COURT WATERING – FOLLOWING COURT TREATMENT:

Courts 1-4 have been treated with a water retaining product containing Magnesium Chloride.

The courts may look damp but they still need to be watered thoroughly from fence to fence to make sure the treatment works for the next 3 months (Feb to at least April) until the end of the hot dry weather.

What you can do:
The water is coming from the tank which is connected to the bore, so no water restrictions apply for courts 1-6.

• Always water the court before and after each set.
• Water all the court thoroughly from fence to fence.
• Water at any time the court becomes dry, mid set if needed.
• Make sure the hoses are turned off after use.
• Be responsible for keeping the courts moist and in good condition.

How it works:
Magnesium Chloride helps retain moisture in en-tous-cas courts by absorbing water from the atmosphere and by retaining the water applied by hose. It keeps the surface moist and has a binding and stabilizing effect on the fine particles that are often blown away by the wind. The treatment should reduce our use of water by 70-80%.

Cost:
This treatment costs $350 per court, so it is important to maximize the benefits of this treatment.

Sprinklers:
The court sprinklers are now working again. It is intended to water the courts early each morning. The water being used is water from the bore stored in the tank.

Drinking Fountains:
The drinking fountains on the courts are connected to mains water so the water is suitable for drinking. Do not drink from the hoses used to water the court.
